Balayage is painted on by hand, freehand, rather than pulled through foils. That is the whole difference and it is the reason people ask for it by name: the lightness starts soft near the root and builds toward the ends, so there is no hard line to chase as it grows. Six weeks after a foil highlight you can see exactly where it started. Six weeks after a balayage, most people cannot.
It suits anyone who wants to look brighter without committing to a colour they have to maintain on a schedule. It is forgiving of a long gap between visits, which matters if your calendar is not your own. And it can be built up slowly across two or three appointments rather than all at once, if you would rather ease into it.
Plan on two to three hours, as listed on our booking menu. That is a real appointment, not a lunch break — the hand-painting is the slow part and it is not a step worth rushing. Bring photos of what you like, and photos of what you do not; the second set is usually more useful than the first.
